A three-month-old baby was killed in a head-on collision between a Mahendra and an Easybike in Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj. Four others were seriously injured in the incident. The accident has cast a shadow of grief over the area.
The tragic accident occurred on Thursday (15/01/2026) at approximately 12:00 pm in the area adjacent to the Joaria Chaprail Bridge on the Tungipara-Kotalipara highway.
The name of the deceased baby is Rishi Majumdar (3 months). He is the son of Raimohan Majumdar. Four others, including the baby’s mother, were seriously injured in the accident. Among the injured, the condition of the baby’s mother is said to be critical.
Aurangzeb, Officer-in-Charge (Operation) of Tungipara Police Station, said that three-month-old baby Rishi Majumdar died on the spot and four others were seriously injured in the accident. Among the injured, the child’s mother is in critical condition and has been kept under special observation. All the injured have been admitted to Tungipara Upazila Government Hospital.
Police said that after receiving the news of the accident, Tungipara police station quickly reached the spot, rescued the injured and sent them to the hospital, and the body of the deceased child has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
There is intense anger among the locals over the incident. Locals said that Mahindra and Easybikes are moving on this road in the opposite direction and at reckless speeds. Accidents often occur due to the lack of effective speed control and supervision of these vehicles.
Locals alleged that a three-month-old newborn lost his life prematurely today due to the lack of proper surveillance and speed control. They also expressed concern for the life of the child’s mother.
They strongly demanded that the authorities concerned immediately determine the speed of vehicles on this road, regularly monitor it and take strict traffic measures.
