A discussion meeting was held at the Upazila Campus Hallroom on Thursday, January 15 at 11 am to make Birganj Upazila free from child marriage and child labor.
The meeting, organized by Birganj Area Program, World Vision Bangladesh and in collaboration with the Upazila Administration and Social Services Office, was attended by officials from various upazila-level departments, public representatives, teachers, NGO representatives and members of civil society.
The Area Program Manager of World Vision Bangladesh delivered the welcome speech at the meeting.
The discussion included a detailed discussion on the social and economic impact of the current situation of child marriage and child labor and what can be done to prevent it, as well as the necessary steps, partnerships and roadmap to declare Birganj Upazila free from child marriage and child labor.
In his speech as the chief guest, the Upazila Executive Officer said, “To ensure a safe future for children, the administration, public representatives, guardians and people from all walks of life must work together to prevent child marriage and child labor.
The Upazila Women’s Affairs Officer and representatives of other departments spoke as special guests.
Officials from various government departments, public representatives, teachers, NGO representatives and civil society members participated in the meeting. The social impact of the current situation of child marriage and child labor and what can be done to prevent it were discussed.
It was decided in the meeting that coordinated initiatives will be taken to prevent child marriage and child labor through regular monitoring, increasing community awareness, strengthening school and family-based activities and law enforcement.
