Dumuria (Khulna) Correspondent:
March 26th is a glorious day in the history of Bangladesh—our great independence and national day. Standing in the year 2026 on Thursday, we are celebrating 55 years of independence. Why is this day so important for us? On the midnight of March 25, 1971 (i.e. in the early hours of March 26th), when the Pakistani occupying forces launched a barbaric attack on innocent Bengalis called ‘Operation Searchlight’, Maj. Ziaur Rahman officially declared the independence of Bangladesh.
This day is basically a symbol of the determination to break the chains of subjugation and emerge as an independent and sovereign state. Our 9-month bloody liberation war began on March 26th, in return for which we got the red-green flag. Tribute at the memorial: In the morning, people from all walks of life paid tribute to the martyrs by laying wreaths at Dumuria Independence Square.
Cannon Firing: The day begins with 31 cannon firings at sunrise.
National Flag Hoisting: The national flag is hoisted in all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions of the country. Cultural Events: Parades, discussions and special illuminations are organized across the country.
At 9 am, the meeting was held at Dumuria College Ground under the chairmanship of Dumuria Upazila Executive Officer Ms. Sabita Sarkar.
