Teknaf (Cox’s Bazar) Correspondent:

A huge quantity of Yaba tablets has been recovered in a special anti-narcotics operation conducted by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the Teknaf border area of Cox’s Bazar. The amount of Yaba recovered is 420,000 pieces, with an estimated market value of around Tk 126 million.

BGB sources said that based on intelligence information, the Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB) conducted the operation in the early hours of March 26, 2026. A special patrol team from the battalion headquarters and Jimbongkhali BOP participated in it.

At around 2:45 am, the patrol team took position in the ‘Sakerer Gher’ area inside Bangladesh, about 3 km northeast of the BOP, adjacent to the border pillar BRM-17. Later, around 3 am, 3 suspects were seen entering Bangladesh from Myanmar.

At that time, when the BGB members challenged them, the smugglers jumped into the water in the nearby enclosure and swam back towards Myanmar. Later, a search was conducted at the spot and a total of 420,000 pieces of Yaba were recovered from 42 airtight khaki-colored packets wrapped in Scotch tape inside a plastic bag.
Despite a long search, no other illegal goods were found. At the same time, a combing operation was conducted in the area to catch the smugglers who had fled, but no one could be arrested in the darkness of the night.

Ukhia Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Zahirul Islam said that intelligence surveillance has been strengthened to identify and arrest the fugitive smugglers. The process of handing over the recovered Yaba to Teknaf Model Police Station is underway.

He also said that in addition to border security, BGB has always been strict in preventing drugs and smuggling and such operations will continue in the future.

It is worth noting that the Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB) under the Ramu Sector of Cox’s Bazar Region has been playing an important role in border security, suppressing drugs and preventing smuggling.
