Five people, including the son and son’s wife, have been arrested in the police station after a video of a mother being beaten and tortured in Santhia, Pabna went viral on Facebook and other media on Saturday (August 30). This created intense anger and public outrage across the country, including in Santhia. In view of this, the police station police arrested the son Nazrul Islam (45), the son’s wife Sonali Khatun (40), the son’s brother-in-law Moniruzzaman (42), the sisters-in-law Farida Khatun (37) and Murshida Khatun (36) from Ramchandrapur village of Dhopadah union in Santhia Upazila on charges of being involved in the incident.
According to the complaint, Nazrul Islam’s brothers appeared at the residence of Thakurpara village in Ramchandrapur, Dhopadah union under Santhia police station, and following the previous incident, the accused beat and intimidated the victim of the case, Maleka, her daughter Ambia Khatun (37), husband Billal Sardar, Sang-Ramchandrapur, Thana-Santhia, District-Pabna, her son Rajib, sister-in-law Maryam Khatun, uncles Samad and Salam, maternal aunt Rina Khatun and Raushnaragans.
It is worth noting that when the incident of the beating spread through social media, local villagers arrived there, arrested them and beat them up. They faced the wrath of the local people. After receiving the news, Santhia police station immediately reached the spot and later the army also arrived there. The police and the army jointly brought the situation under control and took the arrested persons into police custody. A case has been registered in this regard. It is to be noted that the victim Maleka Khatun is currently undergoing treatment at the Santhia Upazila HealthComplex with the assistance of Santhia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Riju Tamanna.
Santhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Anisur Rahman said that a case has been registered in this regard at the police station. Case No. GR-228/2025. The accused have been sent to jail.
