Police have arrested four accused involved in the gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. They were brought under the law within 48 hours of the incident through a drive with the help of information technology. The arrested are Md. Hossain (21), Md. Faruk Ahmed (17), Md. Arif (17) and Md. Mehedi Hasan (20). They are all residents of Panchgaon area of Bhaluka upazila.
According to police sources, the victim girl is from Narayanganj district. The girl, who lost her parents at a young age, has been raised by her stepmother for the past 10 years. Unable to bear the torture of her stepmother, she ran away from home two months ago and started working as a doctor’s assistant at a private diagnostic center in Mymensingh city. About six months ago, she developed a love relationship with the operator of an ID named ‘Zisan Islam’ on the social media Facebook.
On the night of March 14, the girl reached Bhaluka bus stand by bus from Mymensingh to meet her Facebook friend. As per the previous plan, a person received her there, loaded her into a CNG car and took her to a secluded canal in Panchgaon area. The accused, who were already waiting there, forcibly raped the girl in turn and left her there before fleeing. Later, with the help of locals, Bhaluka Model Police Station police rescued the victim and admitted her to the hospital.
Mymensingh Superintendent of Police and Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) visited the scene and ordered the DB and police station to take immediate action. Four people were arrested within 48 hours in a police raid. During the initial interrogation, they admitted their involvement in the incident and gave confessional statements under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code in the learned court.
A case has been registered at Bhaluka Model Police Station under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act. The police operation is continuing to arrest other accused involved in the incident.
