Two relief trains to rescue 9 derailed coaches, rail services disrupted

Efforts are underway to rescue 9 derailed coaches of the Nilsagar intercity train in Santahar, Adamdighi, Bogra. Two relief trains from Ishwardi and Parbatipur reached the spot on Wednesday (March 18) evening. Santahar Station Master Khadija Khatun confirmed the matter at around 8:30 pm.

Earlier, 9 coaches of the Nilsagar intercity train leaving Dhaka derailed at around 2 pm in the Bagbari Dakshinpara area of ​​Santahar Junction Station. Nearly a hundred passengers were injured in the accident. On receiving the information, three units of the railway authorities, police and fire service quickly reached the spot and started a rescue operation. The injured were rescued and admitted to Adamdighi and Naogaon Sadar Hospitals.

Soon after the accident, Santahar Assistant Station Master Shahidul Islam Ranju was temporarily suspended on charges of negligence of duty. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the driver of the train is absconding.

A four-member investigation committee has been formed to investigate the cause of the incident. The accident has disrupted rail communication between Dhaka and North Bengal, causing immense suffering to passengers. As Eid approaches, the joyous journey of many has turned into suffering.

Station Master Khadija Khatun said that two relief trains brought from Ishwardi and Pakshi are working to recover the derailed coaches. Efforts are being made to complete the rescue operations as soon as possible and normalize train traffic.
