An Indian national has been arrested in a raid by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Jessore along with a large quantity of diamonds and currencies of various countries. The estimated market value of the seized goods is more than 66.2 million taka.

The person named Shujauddin was arrested in a special raid in the Notunhat Bazar area of ​​the Jessore-Benapole highway on Thursday (April 2) morning. He is said to be the son of Abu Bakkar from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Lieutenant Colonel Golam Mohammad Saiful Alam Khan, commander of the 49th BGB Battalion, confirmed this information at a press conference organized at the BGB office in Jhumjhumpur, Jessore in the afternoon.

According to BGB sources, they intensified surveillance in the Notunhat Bazar area after receiving information about a plan to smuggle a large consignment of diamonds based on secret information. Shujauddin was arrested due to suspicious behavior at that time. Later, a search of his body recovered 155.67 grams of diamonds, 550 US dollars, 5,880 Indian rupees, 200 Thai baht and 5,530 taka.

During initial interrogation, the BGB said that Shujauddin confessed to being a professional smuggler. He had previously traveled to Bangladesh, Thailand and Malaysia several times and was carrying diamonds collected from Dhaka to India for smuggling.

A case has been filed under the Smuggling Prevention Act in this incident and he has been handed over to Jessore Kotwali Police Station. The BGB confirmed that the recovered diamonds and foreign currency have been deposited in the government treasury.
