International Women’s Day celebrated in Damurhuda, emphasis placed on ensuring ‘safe women and girls’ rights’

“Today’s steps, tomorrow’s justice; Protected women and girls’ rights”—International Women’s Day was celebrated with due dignity in Damurhuda, Chuadanga with this theme and slogan.

On the occasion of the day, a colorful discussion meeting was organized by the Upazila Administration and the Office of the Women’s Affairs Officer at around 11 am today, Sunday.

The formalities of the program began with the reading of the holy scriptures. The Quran was recited by Maulana Md. Ashraful Islam, Hafiz of Damurhuda Upazila Parishad Jame Mosque, and Sukumar Biswas read the Gita.

Damurhuda Upazila Land Affairs Officer (AC Land) Md. Shahin Alam was present as the chief and special guest at the program, chaired by Upazila Women’s Affairs Officer Hosne Jahan.

Also present as special guests were: Md. Shamsujjoha Palash, President. Md. Mirajul Islam Miraj, Vice President. Tanjir Faisal, Secretary, Damurhuda Press Club. Senior officials of various levels of government and private departments of the upazila. Local leaders of various political parties and representatives of various women’s organizations. Local media workers and journalists were also present at the event and highlighted the importance of the day.

In the president’s speech, Hosne Jahan said, “The rights of women and girls should not be limited to paper and pen, they should be implemented in reality. Today’s children are the future of tomorrow, so ensuring their protection is our main step today.”

In the speech of the special guest, Land Officer Md. Shahin Alam said, “A state cannot fully stand tall without the economic and social liberation of women. Starting from the rights of inherited property to ensuring the safety of women in the workplace, the administration is working relentlessly.”

In the discussion meeting, the speakers emphasized the need to enact strict laws against violence against women and increase social awareness. The speakers said that government and non-government organizations must work together to make Damurhuda Upazila a safe place for women and girls.

Local leaders were urged to be more vocal in preventing child marriage and promoting women’s education.

Finally, the event concluded with important guidelines to convey the significance of the day to the women present.
