Jamaat leader accused of extortion after occupying Sheikh Jamal School grounds

Kamrangirchar (Dhaka) Correspondent:

Haji Enayetullah, an influential leader of Jamaat Islam, has been accused of occupying the property of Sheikh Jamal School in Kamrangirchar in the capital and organizing a fair. Locals allege that although it was organized in the name of “July Fair”, its main purpose is extortion and commercial gain.

Business by occupying the field:
There are allegations that the field of Sheikh Jamal School is allocated for students’ studies, sports and cultural activities. However, it has been occupied and the fair has been organized. In the name of the fair, a collection of 300 taka is being collected from each shop in the field and embankment area.

Locals’ anger:
Guardians of the area expressed their anger and said that it is inhumane to occupy the field of an educational institution and organize a fair in this way.
A parent said—
“Our children do not have playgrounds, the learning environment is being ruined. Now the burden of extortion is being imposed on the common people again.

Question on the silence of the administration:
Locals complain that despite repeated complaints, the administration is not taking any effective action. They raise the question, is the place of the educational institution being used for commercial purposes in this way due to political influence?

Fear of becoming a public representative:
Locals also said that Haji Enayetullah is trying to become a public representative in the upcoming elections. They express their fear in this regard and say—
“If such an encroaching and extortionist leader is elected, then the future of our area will be dark.”

Locals demand:
Locals demand that the Sheikh Jamal School grounds be immediately vacated and returned to the students and that the ongoing extortion in the name of the fair be stopped. At the same time, they strongly urge the administration to take immediate legal action and stop these illegal activities.
