Renowned poet Mahmudul Hasan Nizami is no more

A renowned personality from the country has crossed over to the other side of the country after visiting his wife’s house in Taraganj in Rangpur. Poet, writer, columnist, linguist, editor of Dainik Desh Jagat, chief advisor of Netrajal Sahitya Magazine, founder of Jatiya Kavita Mancha, Hamudul Hasan Nizami, a bright star of the current literary world.

Yesterday, March 5, when poet Mahmudul Hasan Nizami suddenly fell ill in Taraganj, Rangpur, he was immediately taken to Rangpur Medical Hospital at approximately 10.00 am. Later, he died while undergoing treatment. His untimely death has cast a shadow of grief over the literary scene of Bangladesh.

The funeral prayer of the deceased will be held tomorrow, Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 9 am at the Central Shaheed Minar, Dhaka University, InshaAllah. The poet’s family has requested everyone to attend.

I have been in his presence several times as a small and insignificant literature lover.
I am sincerely grateful to have received honorary mementos from him as a poet several times. The pictures are memorable today.

Due to the untimely passing of my beloved poet, a void exists in the literary arena of Bangladesh. It can never be filled. (Inna lillahi wa inna ilahi rajiun) I express my deep sorrow and condolences to his family on his unexpected death. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus, Amen.

He was born on February 1, 1971, in a respectable Muslim family in Sandwip Upazila of Chittagong. He has written more than 1,000 songs and poems. The number of books he has published is 140.

His role in the literary arena today is immense.

He has always been appreciated as an inspiration and encouragement to poets, writers and organizers.
