Dhaka Correspondent:
Today, September 1st, is World Letter Writing Day. This day is celebrated to remind people of the lost tradition of handwritten letters and to encourage them to write letters again.
This day was started by Australian writer and pen lover Richard Simkins in 2014. Although the practice of writing letters has almost disappeared in the digital age due to email, messenger, and WhatsApp, many still believe that handwritten letters are one of the best ways to express feelings.
Although the day is not officially celebrated in Bangladesh, some young people and letter-loving organizations create awareness around this day on social media.
According to analysts, handwritten letters are not just a means of communication, but an art. They contain personal touches, heartfelt feelings, and memories that can be preserved for a long time. For this reason, many believe that the romantic atmosphere of handwritten letters remains unfading even in the midst of the rapid communication of modern technology.
Some officials of the Postal Department have also called for increasing the use of post offices and postcards on World Letter Writing Day. According to them, despite the digital facilities, returning to the practice of handwritten letters by the Postal Department will deepen people’s sincere communication.
