The People’s Rights Council held a torchlight procession in Saltha, Faridpur, in protest against the brutal attack on the President of the People’s Rights Council, VP Nurul Haque Nur, by the army and police forces. Today, Sunday, August 31, at 8 pm, a torchlight procession was taken out from in front of the party office next to the bypass road of Saltha Sadar. The procession circled the main road of the Upazila Sadar and ended at the starting point.
Later, a short rally was held at the intersection of the bypass road. The rally was addressed by Faridpur District Public Rights Council Vice President Moniruzzaman Monir Howlader, Finance Secretary Md. Firoz Sheikh, Office Secretary Sumon Islam Nirab, Labor and Employment Affairs Secretary Omar Faruk, Central Student Rights Council Vice President Harun Or Rashid, Saltha Upazila Public Rights Council General Secretary Abul Kashem Molla Imran, Senior Vice President Hemayet Hossain, Vice President Chan Mia, Nagarkanda Upazila Kon Odhikar Parishad Convener Farhad Molya, Member Secretary Nahid Islam, Youth Rights Council Senior Member Secretary Rabiul Islam, Finance Secretary Sohel Rana, Faridpur District Chhatra Dal District Council Vice President Tuhin Mia, Faridpur District Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Syed Abdul Bappi, among others.
The speakers at the rally said, “We strongly condemn and protest the attack on Nurul Haque Bhai by the army and police. I think the Home Affairs Advisor of the interim government is directly behind this attack. I want his resignation.” The attack on VP Nurul Haque Nur has nothing to be happy about for the general public of Bangladesh.
Yesterday Nur, today a journalist, tomorrow you will be, therefore everyone has to be united regardless of party affiliation. Otherwise, there will be military rule again as 1/11. We strongly demand a ban on the Jatiya Party. The speakers demanded the swift arrest of those involved within the next 24 hours and strict punishment.
