Women crowd at polling station in Noakhali

Voting is underway in the six parliamentary constituencies of Noakhali in a festive atmosphere in the 13th National Parliament Election. A large number of women voters were seen visiting various polling stations in the district during the election.

At around 7:30 am on Thursday (February 12), a large number of women were seen at the polling station of West Ahmedpur Primary School in Ward No. 9 of Kabilpur Union No. 6 of Senbag Upazila of the district. A large number of women voters were seen at the polling station in Senbag Government College.

According to district administration sources, out of a total of 875 polling stations in the six parliamentary constituencies of the district, 261 centers have been identified as risky by law enforcement agencies. However, all of these polling stations are under CCTV cameras. In addition, maximum security measures have been taken, including the deployment of additional law enforcement agencies, in the centers identified as risky.

It is learned that there are a total of 141 polling stations in Noakhali-1 constituency. Of these, 88 are general and 53 are very important polling stations. The total number of polling stations in Noakhali-2 constituency is 111. Of these, 73 are general and 38 are very important polling stations. There are a total of 166 polling stations in Noakhali-3 constituency. Of these, 106 are general and 60 are very important polling stations, which is the highest among the six constituencies.

There are a total of 198 polling stations in Noakhali-4 constituency. Of these, 156 are general and 42 are very important polling stations. Of the total 155 polling stations in Noakhali-5 constituency, 104 are general and 51 are very important polling stations. There are a total of 104 polling stations in Noakhali-6 constituency. Of these, 87 are general and 17 are very important polling stations, which is the lowest among the six constituencies in the district. A total of 48 candidates from several parties including BNP, Jamaat, NCP, Islami Andolan, Jatiya Party, JSD are contesting in the six constituencies.

Noakhali Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said, “Voting is underway in a festive atmosphere. No untoward incident occurred at any polling station. Although there was some tension in Hatiya on the night of the election, no polling station was attacked.”
